SVP, Compliance Officer & General Counsel, Portland, Maine

A progressive and action oriented Maine-based financial institution is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Vice President of Compliance and General Counsel. As a key member of the executive leadership team, this role will oversee all aspects of compliance and legal affairs for the financial institution.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the state bar association.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in compliance and legal roles within the financial services industry, preferably in a credit union or banking environment.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state banking laws, regulations, and compliance requirements, including but not limited to BSA/AML, Regulation CC, Regulation E, Reg Z, and FCRA.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage and motivate teams, drive change, and foster a culture of compliance and integrity.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact confidently with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of interpreting complex regulatory requirements and translating them into practical solutions.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
